I Found a Restaurant Hidden Behind a Vending Machine in Tokyo Ueno

Ueno is easily one of our favorite spots in Tokyo for high-energy vibes and low-budget gems! We’re kicking off the day at Hard Off Ueno-Okachimachi—one of the few locations that actually lets you film inside! Whether you're hunting for retro games or a "wild Catreeen" this is the spot.
I Found a Restaurant Hidden Behind a Vending Machine in Tokyo Ueno For lunch, we hit up the legendary Sekai no Yamachan (世界の山ちゃん) for their viral "Phantom Wings." It’s peppery, salty, and totally addictive. We even tried the Monster Energy Sour—yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like, and for $3.50, it’s a total Tokyo "need." But the real highlight? We found a secret restaurant hidden behind a Coca-Cola vending machine! It’s called The GOD Diner, and it’s a total vibe shift—blow-torched chili cheese fries, American sundaes, and... frozen cocktail shrimp? We tried it all so you don't have to (seriously, stick to the burgers!). 📍 Locations & Travel Info: Hard Off/Hobby Off Ueno-Okachimachi: 4-6-6 Ueno, Taito City. (5-min walk from Okachimachi Station). Sekai no Yamachan (Ueno): Famous for Nagoya-style spicy wings. Look for the "Bird Man" logo! Chicken Man (Ameyoko): Iconic rotisserie chicken near the Ameyoko Center Building. The GOD Diner: 6-10-22 Ueno, 2nd Floor. Look for the sticker-covered vending machine door under the train tracks! 💡 Kevin & Cat’s Pro-Tip: Ueno Logistics: If you're coming from Asakusa, it's just a few stops on the Ginza line. It's the perfect area to pair with a visit to the Ueno Zoo or National Museum. The "Shrimp Warning": Seriously, if you go to The GOD Diner, get the burger. The chili cheese fries are great, but the cocktail shrimp was... an experience. Gacha Luck: Don't forget to check the 500 yen machines outside Yamachan for the exclusive wing-themed keychains! Would you enter a restaurant through a vending machine? And more importantly... would you drink a Monster Energy cocktail? Let us know in the comments! 👇
